Tofu is high in protein and iron, and low in fat. Whether you’re already enamored with vegetarian cuisine or just eager to try a new ingredient, tofu is the perfect dinner solution. The most useful characteristic of tofu is that it does not have its own taste and absorbs the flavor of the ingredients it is mixed with. It is available in different forms that include silken tofu and regular tofu, where silken tofu is soft in texture while the regular tofu is firm. Different cooking techniques are required for both these types of tofu.

Tofu Souffle

Ingredients

  • Tofu (mashed), 1½ cups
  • Canned asparagus (drained and chopped), 1 cup
  • Green onion (chopped), 2 tablespoons
  • Dry mustard, ¼ teaspoon
  • Egg yolks, 4
  • Egg whites, 4
  • Whole wheat bread, 3 slices
  • Butter (melted), 2 tablespoons

Directions

First, beat the egg whites properly. In a blender, add all the ingredients (except the egg whites) and blend them to form a smooth paste. Add salt according to your requirement. Add the egg whites after the paste is formed. Take a souffle dish, oil its surface, and pour the mixture into it. Preheat the oven to 325 °F, and bake the mixture for 40-50 minutes to get a golden brown color.

Vegan Pineapple Tofu Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup pineapple preserves
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup orange juice or pineapple juice
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 block firm tofu, diced into cubes
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2/3 cup diced pineapple
  • 3/4 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 scallions, chopped (optional)

Directions

Whisk together the pineapple preserves, soy sauce and orange juice. Sautee garlic and tofu in oil until tofu is lightly browned. Reduce heat and add pineapple sauce and pineapples, stirring well to combine. Heat for 2-3 minutes, then add cornstarch, whisking to avoid lumps. Heat one more minute, until sauce thickens.

Asian Baked Tofu

Ingredients

  • 16 oz extra firm tofu, cut into thin 1” slabs
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 3 tsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp sriracha sauce
  • pinch of garlic powder
  • pinch of onion powder
  • pinch of sea salt

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees and spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray. In a shallow dish, whisk together all ingredients (minus the tofu). Drench each piece of tofu in the sauce ingredients then lay flat on the baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes, flipping each piece of tofu midway through.

Tofu Salad

Ingredients

  • Mayonnaise, cup
  • Lemon juice, ½ cup
  • Celery stalk (diced), ½
  • Garlic powder, ½ teaspoon
  • Onion powder, ½ teaspoon
  • Mustard, 1 tablespoon
  • Firm tofu, 1 block

Directions

First take the tofu block, drain the water from it, and mash it thoroughly. After mashing it, add all the ingredients to it, and stir the mixture so that all the ingredients get mixed properly. The tofu salad is ready. Use it to serve as a filling for sandwiches.

Tofu Vegetable Bake

Ingredients

  • Large onion, ½
  • Carrot, 1
  • Spinach, ½ cup
  • Firm tofu, ½-1 block
  • Olive oil, 1 tablespoon
  • Tomatoes, 1 or 2
  • Pepper and spices of your choice
  • Salt to taste

Directions

Cut all the vegetables and tofu into small pieces. Place them together in a baking pan and pour some olive oil over the mixture. Add the pepper, salt, and selected spices according to your requirements, and mix the ingredients together. Preheat the oven to 375 °F, and bake the mixture for approximately half an hour.
